Greenest House: Transforming the Future of UK Housing

Greenest House is a pioneering project by Office Ten Architecture, the London-based practice founded by Erika Suzuki (BEng, MEng,DipArch, MArch, ARB) and Anders Luhr (MArch, ARB, RIBA). It is a pioneering project that redefines how we approach the UK’s housing and environmental crises.Greenest House will be officially unveiled this spring at Time Space Existence in Venice, during the Venice Biennale, 10th May – 23rd November 2025.

The Urgent Need for Change

Britain is grappling with a severe housing shortage, exceeding 4 million homes, with 300,000 new properties needed annually to close the gap. At the same time, much of the existing housing stock is outdated, poorly insulated, and energy inefficient—only 29% of UK homes meet an EPC rating of C or higher. Alarmingly, 6.7 million people live in fuel poverty. Yet, despite these challenges, the focus on demolition and rebuilding persists, displacing communities, squandering resources, and exacerbating the climate crisis.

A Smarter, More Sustainable Solution

Greenest House provides a sustainable alternative to demolition by upgrading and retrofitting the UK’s widespread terraced homes. By optimizing space and transforming these properties into multiple high-quality dwellings, it creates affordable, energy-efficient housing while maintaining the integrity of existing communities.

Innovative Partnerships for a Greener Future

To bring Greenest House to life, Office Ten Architecture has teamed up with a select group of innovative suppliers, each leading the way in sustainable construction. Brouns & Co is one of these suppliers as linseed paint is an important part of sustaining any exterior or interior wood, an integral part of most building projects. Wood is the ultimate sustainable building material, and with the right protective treatments, it can endure for centuries. Linseed paint offers both durability and aesthetic appeal. Brouns & Co linseed paint, made from plant-based ingredients and free of VOCs, provides an eco-friendly alternative to conventional plastic paints. When used on exterior surfaces, it penetrates the wood while allowing moisture to escape, significantly extending the maintenance cycle.

Proud to Support Greenest House

At Brouns & Co, we are proud to be part of the Greenest House project, as it is a natural extension of our own vision to help preserve the buildings and environment we love.
